Continuous training and years of service have built a staff at the James L. West Center for Dementia Care that can care for the most difficult dementia complications with compassion and expertise.
Staff members in every department receive initial and ongoing training in all aspects of memory care for many types of dementia disorders. Every resident is different, and our staff is skilled in discovering each one’s needs and abilities, at every stage of their journey.

Medical Directors
Dr. Janice Knebl has served as medical director for the James L. West Center since it opened in 1993. A highly-respected geriatrician, professor in geriatrics and clinical researcher, Dr. Knebl works closely with the West Center’s leadership and its student programs to ensure high-quality care.
Dr. Sarah Ross has served as medical director for one year but has been a physician working with Dr. Knebl at James L. West since 2012.
