Applying For Residency At James L. West

The James L. West admissions process is the same whether referred by a family physician, a friend or you inquire directly for your loved one. There are several ways to connect with us.

Whether you call or email, our marketing and admissions director will respond to set up a campus visit, where you’ll be able to tour the community and see the James L. West team in action.

Financial pre-qualification is one of the first steps in the James L. West admissions process. James L. West is a private pay, skilled nursing Alzheimer’s Certified memory support facility. James L. West does not directly accept long-term care insurance, but we will help you seek reimbursement if your policy covers skilled nursing or dementia care. The marketing and admissions director can review your loved one’s policy with you.

Our marketing and admissions director will review the application and information packet at your appointment and help you determine if James L. West is appropriate for your loved one. A dementia diagnosis is required for admission to our community.

To Complete The Application Process, You Should Have:

A completed application packet.

Clinical information including history and physical, clinical notes with a diagnosis of dementia, and a medication list.

Copies of durable and medical power of attorney paperwork.

The Approval Process

When the completed application is received, the clinical team will review the information and schedule an in-person assessment. This in-person assessment is critical in setting up new residents for success in a new environment.

James L. West has separate neighborhoods designed for residents with different cognitive and physical abilities, interests and behavior patterns. Placement is determined based on availability and compatibility with residents within each neighborhood to ensure success for all residents.

Once the assessment is completed and the clinical team has determined the appropriate placement, a move-in date will be determined based on availability.

James L. West has 6 different houses. The Brazos and Colorado Houses are home to more independent residents who require some redirection and assistance.

Both Pecos and Red River House residents require more assistance with daily activities. Trinity House provides the highest level of care for those farthest along in the disease process.

The Wichita House is home to the new short-term rehabilitation for people with dementia.

Moving Into James L. West

The residences at James L. West feature built-in closets with space for hanging clothes, drawers and cubbies for personal items. A hospital style bed is also provided, along with bed linens, toiletries and personal hygiene items. However, if your loved one has a specific product they prefer to use, please feel free to bring them from home and label those items.

You are encouraged to bring items to decorate your loved one’s room with items they love. This will help them feel at ease. You can also bring a television, up to 42 inches, to mount on the wall in your loved one’s room. There may also be room to bring a recliner or chair and ottoman, depending on whether your loved one has a private or semi-private room.

While you meet with the admissions and marketing director for any final questions, your loved one meets with one of our caring nurses and begins to get settled into their new home.

The James L. West team will assist with your move in and hang wall-mount televisions for you.
